Hordes of Chaos Banners for your new Warriors of Chaos Army ?

Some free Warhammer banner .pdf templates

I stumbled upon these by accident but thought hey, why not post it on your blog because Warriors are on their way. So here are some old standard banner templates from GW :-

Update: 22-Aug-2010

Alas, GW have removed the old link for the Hordes of Chaos banners / standards. I'll post some alternatives here when I find some.

Chaos Dwarf Army website

Chaos Dwarf Fanatics Site

I found this great site for anyone interested in Warhammer Fantasy Battle Chaos Dwarfs. If you like stunty folk with strange beards, then this is the place for you :)

chaos-dwarfs.com/index.php (copy into your address bar)

It features all the rules on a Chaos Dwarf wiki, an active forum and great gallery. It's well presented throughout.

Will the Warhammer Dwarf Army ever get some Cavalry ?

Dwarf Cavalry - "go on, do it !" (as Arnie said to the Predator)

Someone somewhere at GW must be thinking forward to the next Dwarf Army book !?

Maybe, I'm just itching for a new Dwarf unit to beat up :) Or maybe Dwarf Bear riders aren't quite a crazy as they sound ?

Here's my suggested profile:-

MWsBsSTWIALd
Bear Rider343341219
Grizzly !6*40441327

Armour Save: 5+ (for the bear, more with armour)

Special Rules: Cause Fear

* I believe the profile above is from the old Warhammer Fantasy Battle book which had a full bestiary but I think the movement was 7. Personally, I'd reduce the movement to 6 - those stunties can't have everything !

What do you think ?

BTW, you can buy this:-

Games Workshop US add club locator to their website store locator.

- a nice new feature from Games Workshop (all other GW websites will also have this feaure when they're rolled out in the new website format).

Games Workshop Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2008

Summary for Warhammer Fantasy Battle players and general Games Workshop enthusiasts

An interesting article on dakkadakka by "precinctomega" who attended the most recent Games Workshop AGM.

You can read the whole post (dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/218542.page#383574) although it's quite long so here's my summary below:-

  • Hobby centers will reduce the number of lines held in store to ensure the most popular items are always available. Other items can be ordered for delivery to the shop through in-store terminals .

  • Plastic minatures have proven much more popular than metal so they will be expanding their range but continunig to support metal sculpts.

  • Objective of development team (this is good news !) is to ensure new rules never invalidate models or armies and core rule books do not invalidate old army books.

    Games Workshop Website News

  • UK Website launches on 9th October 2008

  • Websites for Germany, France, Italy, Spain are next then Australia / Canada and rest of europe.

  • The website wil be the same for all locations but regionalised for language and currency.

    Other Games Workshop notes

  • It sounds like their will be a big push to expand the US market which they think is under developed.
  • PriceWaterhouse believe GW have a 94% share of the miniature wargaming market
  • The Watchman Gamers magazine (free .pdf download)

Issue 4 includes some great Warhammer Fantasy Battle articles

The Watchman is an awesome magazine put together by the gaming community. It's extremely well presented, with awesome artwork throughout, the writting is great and it's completely free to download.

For the Warhammer enthusiast, issue 4 includes:-

    • Flexible Army lists to cover all turn phases
      (focusing on Chaos Daemons)
    • Build your own light box
      (for miniature photography)
    • Tips from Golden Demon winners
    • Warhammer Legendary Battles supplement

Note: the issues are quite large so may take a short while to download.

White Dwarf WD346 October 2008 Contents Review

      White Dwarf Review (WD346)

A good mag if you're into lasers and tanks but not so great if you're into swords and crossbows.

First and foremost I must warn you that October's mag does NOT contain all the nice piccies, fluff and adverts for Warriors of Chaos. Apparently, that's coming next month (november).

For anyone upset by this news (like I was), I have included a nice big chaos piccie below (click to enlarge - a lot !)

      Fantasy Battle Fans

I'm afraid the only highlight this month is the 6 page articles on raiding. It's part II of the raiding feature that began last month and this one includes rules for pillaging. There are 4 suggested scenarios (and a rules page for each); The Dawn Raid, Coastal Raid, Spoils of War and Revenge.

It makes for a nice, if short, read.

There a re 3 new books from Black Library, one is Gotrek & Felix : Elf Slayer (I'm always up for a bit of Elf slaying since I turned my allegiances to Count Vlad)

For Warhammer 40k Fans - you have a treat in store

this might be the mag you've been waiting for inbetween all those pesky annoying Fantasy Battle Army book updates. I don't play 40k so this is a best effort at the contents, here goes:-

      40k stuff in WD346

      • A 40K Space Marine new 144 page codex advert - release October 4th.
      • 6 pages of space marine miniatures (including drop-pod £18, land raider crusader / redeemer £35; Sternguard Veterans £20; Pedro Kantor £8; Captain Sicarius £8; Vanguard Veterans £20; Chronus £12; Telion £8; Thunderfore Cannon £30; Space Marine Scout Bike £7; Land Speeder £18;
      • 2 pages of 40k forgeworld miniatures; an excellent looking Nurgle Dreadnought and Eldar Cobra Type II
      • 2 40k books: Titanicus and Only in Death (both by Dan Abnett)
      • 10 pages of Design Notes around Space Marines entitled "And They Shall Know No Fear"
      • 4 pages design notes on drop-pod and land raider variant kit (which has pictures of all the bitz)
      • 1 page of notes on legendary Chapters; Imperial Fists; White Scars; Salamanders; Crimson Fists; Raven Guard
      • 3 pages of Design Notes on Evolution of the Space Marine
      • 9 pages on 40k "A tale of 4 gamers", tracking games players and how many figures they paint / games they play - like a small personal blog competition.
      • 26 pages covering 3 battle reports !!! Ultramarines vs Eldar, White Scars vs Chaos Space Marines, Salamanders vs Tyranids (excellent presentation of constituent armies prior to each battle - photograhed and placed on a white background in list format)
      • 3 pages on a newly ressurected John Blanche's hobby column (all 40k)
A load more Space Marine minis at the back of the mag (these look like the ones already in production, like Dreadnought, Terminator Assault squad, Vindicator etc.

      Lord of the Rings bits

      • 6 pages on Magic of Middle Earth - Augment, Blast, Confound.
      • 6 pages Eavy Metal Masterclass on Elrond

      Painting

      • 6 pages on general painting tips (including dry-brushing, over-brushing and combining)

New Warhammer Fantasy Battle Blog Layout - Warhammer Beginners Rules and Tactics Overview & all Warhammer pdf Army Lists / Reference Sheets

Warhammer Fantasy Battle Beginners & all Army Lists / Reference Sheet pdfs

I've decided to devote some time and effort on the beginner's section of this blog because a lot of my visitors seem to be new or fairly new to the Fantasy Battle game.

I have moved all the Warhammer Fantasy Battle Army Lists / Reference Sheets (pdfs) to the Beginner's section.

Also, I will be writing some very basic articles on how the game works, choosing armies, battlefield tactics and a guide on getting started quickly at minimum time and cost.

New Warhammer Fantasy Battle Report Site - online (please comment on format)

Hi folks, another project I have been working on (when I need a break from the Nauticans !) is a new Battle Reports site. I am categorising the battle reports by race, size, writing style and length.

I've also places a grid in the center of the page so you can select the battle opponents you're interested in. All I need to do now is get out on the internet and start pasting the best reports across.

Warhammer Fantasy Battle Reports Website (http://2d6.blogspot.com)

I do have 1 request though... can someone let me know if the format looks ok please ? Also, if there were plenty of entertaining battle reports on the site would you visit the site regularly ?

      Thanks for your help,
      Sigmar

Warhammer blog (new design, esp Warhammer Army Rules and Tactics section)

Some of you may have noticed that I am trying a slightly new design to help my visitors navigate around the blog. The only downside is that you will not see the number of posts against each Warhammer Race / Army List (see the right hand side bar).

If you have read all the old posts then just use the drop down box to see the new posts.

      For new visitors...

The "WFB Army & Unit Tactics" section is full of all sorts of analysis and my opinions of various units and army tactics, here's a sample of what you can find...

      Fay Enchantress rules and tactics

Dragon Prince Tactics vs Silver Helms
      Stegadon Rules and Tactics
Leadbelchers - should you use them

      Ratling gun rules and tactics
Tomb Kings rules and tactics (special units)
      Corpse Cart rules and tactics
      Wardancers rules and tactics
      Hellcannon rules (for Chaos Warriors)

Games Workshop's specialist game support (incl. Battlefleet Gothic, Battle of Five Armies, Blood Bowl, Mordheim, Epic, Warmaster and some others)

Warhammer videos on YouTube (stop motion picks, incl. LOTR and 40K and some funny ones)

Update : number (14) was added today. Turn 3 to conclusion of a Warhamer battle between Orcs and Chaos Hordes. Well made and with all painted miniatures.

      (1) Space Hulk
This is awesome, something I can only aspire to with my videos. I need to update my kit, my skills and my imagination to get anywhere near this ! Top quality in every way.

Even if you're not a Space Hulk fan you should check this out, it really rocks.

      (2) Dalek-Hammer - LOL !
If you have a warped sense of humour like me, this is sheer brilliance.
I loved it but if you're a serious type of gamer... don't watch ! You have been warned :)

      (3) Warhammer 40,000 video
For some reason I found this video strangely compelling and watched till the end. Stick with it, it's really quite good.

      (4) not to everyone's taste but I loved it
I had to laugh. It come with a philosophic ending, brilliant in it's simplicity :)

      (5) LOTR castle siege video
Reasonable effort - not bad but not great. Interesting castle - I think the defenders should have stayed behind the walls though !

(6a) Ultramarine escape across the worktop ! (part I)

(6b) Ultramarine escape across the worktop ! (part II)

This is quite amusing, probably even more so for 40,000 fans...

      (7) Good Warhammer 40,000 stop motion "battle" story
While looking for a few ideas and new techniques for my next round of videos I stumbled across this one which is not too bad. I have to say though that there is a lot of dross out there on YouTube !

The lasers and explosions are quite cool, a lot of work went into this one.

      (8) Lord of the Rings "almost" Battle Video
He got off to a great start with a nice board, all painted figures and excellent accompanying atmospheric music but where's the battle ?!

I cannot promise all painted figures but my larger scale reports will include a battle :)

      (9) A good 40k stop motion video with neat narration

      (10) Amusing for it's quirkiness and innocence

      (11) 40k fast and frenetic but kind of fun

      (12) Snow White and the Seven Orks
Not exactly Warhammer (or even stop motion) but quite amusing nonetheless.

      (13) A Warhammer Fantasy Battle dramatisation (the Castle Gate)
The first couple of turns in a warhammer battle of Orcs vs Chaos (conducted for video). All painted miniatures.

      (14) A Warhammer Fantasy Battle dramatisation (the Castle Gate part II)
Turn 3 onwards in a warhammer battle of Orcs vs Chaos (conducted for video). All painted miniatures.

      (14) A Warhammer Fantasy Battle dramatisation (the Castle Gate part III)
Assault on the Castle Gate (conducted for video). All painted miniatures.
      (added : 7-Sep-2008)

      (14) A Warhammer Fantasy Battle dramatisation (the Castle Gate part IV)
Chaos Warriors Defend their newly captured castle from the Beasts of Chaos (conducted for video). All painted miniatures.

Warhammer Poll Results : number of characters used in 2000pt games, value of magical items, players game style.

Here are the most recent poll results. Some interesting reading confirming in my view that magical items are integral and quite essential in your army selection. Interestingly, many people do not take 4 characters into battle in a 2000pt game.

Over the course of 4 weeks we had about 100 votes for each answer. In future I might put polls up for a week or 2 longer for a more conclusive response.

Which army is best for defeating the new Warhammer Dark Elves

With the new book not long out, if you've fought them and have some battlefield experience or if you just have an opinion please vote in this blog's poll (see right hand pane - you might need to scroll down a bit). Select 4 armies which you think are best suited for taking down the disciples of Khaine.

Which Warhammer army is best for beating Chaos Daemons (new community poll)

I think this is a question that a lot of people would like answered with the recent book releases many people will not have faced the new Chaos Daemons yet.

I have added these polls to the right hand pane (scroll down a bit if you can't see it)

I have taken the old expired polls down (the questions were: are magical items worth it, players gaming style and number of characters used in 2000pt games)

I will publish the results from the expired polls in a couple of days.

      New Warhammer Battle Reporting hub

      Hi folks,

I just wanted to let you know that I've just about completed the design of my new Battle Reports hub. I will be trawling the net to get the best battle reports and then asking for permission to put them all into this centralised hub.

      Battle Reports hub (http://2d6.blogspot.com)

You can choose reports by length, pts value, writing style, and race.

I will be populating this from now onwards so please add it to your favourites and come back when you fancy reading another report.
